Wow, exactly what I have been thinking about. I think it also has to do with peoples understanding of prophecy. I wonder if maybe prophecy isn’t necessarily about future predicting but about bringing to a fuller meaning and purpose.

The nt writers are adding meaning to historical events and have deeper meaning in light of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

It’s not so much these passages are predicting Jesus’ coming but about the nt writers looking back over the OT in light of Jesus.
